What people are saying
Playland is a state of mind. It lives in the happy memories of hundreds of thousands of people, age 9 to 90.
When I was a kid my family’s annual trip to the park felt like an extra holiday. Looking up at the coasters and the Ferris wheel covered in, what seemed like, a million sparkling lights was magic.
Some years later the school trips and summer days spent there as a day camp kid were just as thrilling. Our imaginations ran wild as we laughed our way through unique and mysterious attractions like the Fun House, and a crazy walk through palace called The Magic Carpet.
During the high school and college years the park became a date night destination. There is no way to measure how many summer romances took flight at Playland where it was always the summer of love for someone.
Flash forward to when I first brought my son and nephews to Kiddeland. Seeing the smiles on the new generation in the place that I enjoyed so much in my youth was a joy of its own.
I remember it was on that sacred ground that with my dad’s encouragement I conquered my fear of the mighty Dragon Coaster, and then years later carried on the tradition by riding it with my son for his first go round.
On certain summer evenings there was music…. Johnny Maestro & The Brooklyn Bridge, The Turtles, Pat Benatar, Neil Sedaka, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, Rick Springfield, Little Anthony and The Imperials, Cyndi Lauper and many others performed in concert. The shows were free.
Other places in the area, like Palisades Park, Freedomland, and The New York World’s Fair of the 60s,came and went, but Playland is a tradition, a place where people can smile and enjoy their family and friends…a place where memories are made daily….
A place that enhances our quality of life.
Keep it Playland.
I worked on the Derby ride for 2 years. Then Funtastik Amuzements. LOVE THAT PLACE!
I even got to work with my MOM and watch Fireworks with her. Memories!!!!!!
Playland has been part of my life for 62 years . It would be a shame to see it go.
Hope it stays as Playland, there are no other amusement parks close to the Bronx, and Westchester.
Great place to take the kids, always enjoyed the Friday nite fireworks!
