Rye Playland is a Westchester icon immortalized in the film “Big”, but it’s a money-loser — to the tune of between $3 million and $5 million a year.
Three deaths on rides since 2004 and the institution of an admission fee in 2009 have helped cut attendance in half over the past five years, from about one million to 500,000. Meanwhile, operating costs have soared.
